A fun music and signing group for babies and toddlers at Poole Museum.Sing nursery rhymes, make music and learn simple signs for everyday communication. Suitable for babies and toddlers (0-3 years old)

Are you living with memory loss or dementia?
Join us for a social afternoon of reminiscence, friendship and support. Our weekly club is held in our learning suite, and is led by a specialist reminiscence facilitator in association with Prama.
Advance booking essential. £2 per week, payable on the day.

In our latest tour, our four partner museums have chosen objects that tell stories of the region’s ‘wicked’ past – from grim and gruesome to strange and shocking! A Bellarmine Witch Bottle from Wiltshire Museum will be the third of four temporary displays.

Scaplen's Court Garden Opening

Description
Adjoining Scaplen's Court is a delightful walled garden providing an oasis of colour and tranquillity. Originally designed by George Dillistone in 1930, it was restored by volunteers in 2000 as a herb and physic garden. Volunteers continue to keep the garden looking beautiful and it will open to the public from the 4th of May. 


Free entry, open daily from 1 - 4pm.

Claire Pinder and Ciorstaidh Trevarthen, from Dorset Council's Historic Environment Team, will be here to identify your archaeological finds and help to solve the mystery!

Art Detectives Make and Take Activity: A Room in Your House

Inspired by The Tea Party painting by Henry Lamb, on display as part of our Henry Lamb temporary exhibition. In 1922 Henry Lamb acquired his first house, 10 Hill Street, which was situated in Poole. How will you create your own front door and a special room in your house?

An evening of dinner, drinks and stunning views to benefit Poole Museums. Celebrate the renowned Poole artist, Henry Lamb, with a digital taste of Poole Museum's high profile exhibition, Henry Lamb: Out of the Shadows. Entrance includes a welcome drink, 3-course meal and a special talk from Primrose Campbell, the artist's granddaughter.


Tickets are £40 for members and £45 for non-members. Corporate tables are £500 for 12 people.

Pirates, Castaways and Codfish

As part of Poole Maritime Festival, explore Scaplen's Court and speak to the team behind the Pirates, Castaways and Codfish project to learn more about Poole's maritime past. Delve into the fascinating stories and extensive research carried out in 2018 as part of an HLF funded project. A chance to ask your questions, take part in craft activities and enjoy some living history performances.


Enjoy some refreshments and family entertainment throughout the day. Build your own pirate ship and discover more about the development of Poole between 1580 and 1730.


Organised by Poole Bay Rotary Club in association with Poole Museum.

Henry Lamb: Out of the Shadows Dementia-Friendly Exhibition Tour

Description
A chance to view and discuss the paintings in Poole Museum's temporary exhibition, Henry Lamb: Out of the Shadows. The exhibition take s a deeper look into the life and work of this significant and highly skilled British artist who moved to Poole after WWI to recuperate. He made many studies and paintings of the urban scene and unemployed workers in the 1920s, preserving the community's history in some of his best work. 


This is an interactive session for those living with dementia and their carers. No previous experience or knowledge of art is required. 


A hot drink and cake will be provided in the cafe at the end of the sessions (included in entrance price).

'Painter and Polymath': Talk by Primrose Campbell, granddaughter of Henry Lamb

Description
Primrose Campbell, granddaughter of the artist Henry Lamb, will explore the story of his life, early years and influences. Find out more about the artist’s inner life including how he fought against the Manchester dons of his youth, moved through Bohemian pre-1914 Chelsea, Paris and the wilds of western Ireland. The talk will also reveal more about his years in Poole and his settled family life in Coombe Bisset, where he lived and painted for over 30 years. Primrose will give a 45-minute talk followed by a guided tour of the Henry Lamb exhibition.

Dorset Architectural Heritage Week Tours
